Prostate Cancer Treatments
How to treat Prostate Cancer is no longer a mystery now. With so many developments in the world of
medicine taking place around the world, it has become doubly easy for doctors to treat Prostate Cancer. The only thing to note here is that
the treatment methods can be a bit costly for some people.
Remember, treatment of cancer can be done by many ways. Many doctors prefer using a solitary method to
treat prostate cancer. Some of them use couple of methods in conjunction whereas some doctors also use one treatment method after
another.
Radiation therapy is one of the most popularly recommended ones by doctors treating prostate cancer.
Doctors can choose between EBRT(External Beam Radiation Therapy) or Radioactive Seed implants. In terms of mode of operation, both of them
are more or less similar. EBRT uses XRAY waves to kill the cancerous cells. In Radioactive Seed implants, radioactive seeds are
placed in the cancerous cells. It is obvious from these treatment methods that radioactivity is used to treating prostate
cancer.
Hormone Therapy is used primarily in treating patients in the advanced stages of prostate cancer. This is
the time when patients do not get impacted positively by radioactive rays. It has been found that that hormone therapy helps in putting
brakes on the growth of the cancer.
Using chemicals in a process of treatment is known as Chemotherapy. Please note that Chemotherapy can
often get to be a recurring process as it can only treat prostate cancer but not cure it. Hence, if you know someone who went for a
chemotherapy session last month, it is about time that you advise them that they would need to go for another in a couple of months time to
prevent relapse.
One issue with all these treatment methods is that not everyone is open to receiving all these kinds of
treatment. It is important for the treating doctor to understand the biology of the patient before using any one of these
methods.
